Jimmy Walker Tees Off in Ryder Cup, Sponsored by Jet Linx Private Jet Provider
This week, Jet Linx favorite Jimmy Walker joins Team USA to compete for the Ryder Cup. Walker is sponsored by Jet Linx, a private jet provider with ten locations throughout the U.S.
Walker, who turned pro in 2001, will play in the Ryder Cup for the first time, one of three rookies on the team. “Playing in the Ryder Cup is a dream come true. It’s honoring, humbling, and I’m very excited to represent Team USA and represent my country,” said Walker in an exclusive video interview with Jet Linx. Walker leads Team USA with three wins this season.
Walker joins veteran golfers Phil Mickelson, Rickie Fowler and Keegan Bradley, among others, in hopes of overcoming the European team. Leading the European team in wins this season are Rory McIlroy and Martin Kaymer. Both McIlRoy and Kaymer played in the 2010 and 2012 Ryder Cup tournaments for the European team.
This year’s tournament will take place Thursday through Sunday at Gleneagles in Scotland. This is Gleneagles’ first year as host to the Ryder Cup.
The Ryder Cup was formed in 1927, with unofficial matches in 1921 (at Gleneagles) and 1926. Originally a contest between American and British professional golfers, the playing field expanded to include continental European players in 1979. The biennial tournament has been played since its inception in 1927, with a decade-long hiatus during World War II. The 2001 Ryder Cup was postponed until 2002, and has been played in even-numbered years since.
