Embraer Praetor
Unveiled in October 2018, Embraer’s Praetor 500 and Praetor 600 represent a rebirth of Embraer Executive Jets’ Legacy 450 and 500 fly-by-wire models.
Praetor, a derivative of the Latin verb ‘praeire,’ means to go before or to lead the way. In ancient Rome, Praetors acted as trusted servants to the emperor, the ultimate magistrates to fulfill the wishes of their leader. The namesake fits well for these models; not just capable, but eager to impress in their respective segments.
Michael Amalfitano, President and CEO of Embraer Executive Jets, explained, “The Praetors are aircraft certainly in keeping with their name, leading the way in redefining the characteristics of what a Midsize and Super-Midsize aircraft deliver to the market.”
The Praetor 500 and Praetor 600 offer substantially better range and performance, as well as thoughtfully-designed interiors that cater to the end-user. Fly-by-wire (FBW) technology, best-in-class cabin altitude (5,800 feet) and Synthetic Vision Guidance Systems promise to differentiate these aircraft in their categories, but there are a host of noteworthy features in both models. Recent concerns in regard to health and safety have also made HEPA air filters become standard on all Praetor models, further enhancing Embraer Executive Jets’ commitment to passenger safety. Air inside the Praetor cabins is renewed every three minutes, and 99.97% of viruses, bacteria and fungi are captured in the HEPA filters.
“Thanks to our unparalleled engineering team and world-class partnership with Collins Aerospace, Embraer now offers business aviation’s first Synthetic Vision Guidance System on the Praetor 500 and Praetor 600, further solidifying their position as the most disruptive and technologically-advanced Midsize business jets in the market,” Amalfitano added.
Conventional aircraft controls use mechanical components that react to input from the yoke, achieving control of the aircraft through a system of cables and pulleys. Fly-by-wire technology allows an aircraft to be controlled electronically, eliminating the weight and bulk of mechanical controls while allowing increased safety, better fuel efficiency and flexibility in design. For passengers, it means direct access to more destinations through regional airports with improved takeoff and landing performance, plus FBW technology can reduce downtime by up to 40%.
Praetor 500
For a Midsize Jet, the Praetor 500 transcends its category. It offers remarkable speed and incredible range; nonstop trips include New York to London, Miami to Seattle, Paris to Beijing, and London to Dubai.
This corner-to-corner aircraft carries nine passengers up to 3,840 miles, more than 300 miles farther than the Legacy 450 on which it’s based. With maximum endurance of up to eight hours, a user’s domain is greatly increased, and the runway performance of the Praetor 500 allows access to challenging airport runways.
Able to fly its maximum range from a 4,222-foot runway, the Praetor can take off from runways as short as 3,000 feet. The Embraer Enhanced Vision System, or E2VS, combines a Synthetic Vision System and Head-up Display (HUD) in the cockpit to allow pilots to see what the human eye cannot, further extending situational awareness. The Praetor 500 is the first of its class to offer such a system.
The Praetor 500 can seat seven to nine passengers depending upon the cabin configuration and offers 150 cubic feet of baggage space. A six-foot-high, flat, standup cabin comfortably accommodates taller passengers, while skillful craftsmanship translates to a meticulously-fashioned interior space. For long flights, the Praetor 500 is the only aircraft of its segment to offer an optional full wet galley, comprehensively equipped with stone flooring, a microwave, conventional oven, refrigerator, coffee brewer, as well as elegant crystal, china and silverware.
The cabin design of the Praetor 500 seeks to maximize usable space while offering every inch of comfort to passengers. This is accomplished with fine details like silk flooring and natural Italian leather seats. The seats are designed to fully recline with berthing capability and leg rests, and are accompanied by touchscreen controls, input ports and stowable tables that open flush with a side ledge. There’s also a 19-inch HD monitor, a two-place divan and input ports for all kinds of electronic devices. An enclosed vacuum lavatory and internal baggage compartment add to the user-friendly design.
As an optional feature, the ultra-premium Bossa Nova edition interior treats passengers to an iconic finish. The interior package includes carbon fiber materials, piano-black coloring, and intricate stitching. With or without the Bossa Nova finish, cabin altitude remains at 5,800 feet at an altitude of 45,000 feet, allowing passengers to feel fresh and reinvigorated after a long flight.
Praetor 600
The Praetor 600 offers certified performance in every facet of flight. The aircraft is the most technologically-advanced Super Midsize Jet in the world.
As a development of the Legacy 500, the Praetor 600 offers intercontinental range, capable of flying up to 4,600 miles, roughly 900 miles more than its predecessor. Extra range results from more aerodynamically-efficient winglets and additional fuel capacity. For passengers looking to bridge oceans without compromise, the Praetor 600 offers that ability and more. Potential nonstop missions include São Paulo to Miami, New York to Berlin, and London to Dubai.
It is also a “jet of firsts,” boasting the distinction of being the first jet in its category certified since 2014, the first to fly beyond 3,700 nautical miles at Mach 0.80 (613 mph) and the first with over 4,000 nautical mile range at long-range cruise speed. Not only does the Praetor offer efficiency, its advanced FBW technology allows access to challenging airports with commanding runway performance. Remote airport access is achievable with the Praetor 600’s ability to launch from runways as short as 3,000 feet.
For an aircraft that excels on performance and technology, equal consideration has been given to passenger comfort. The cabin of the Praetor 600 has been meticulously designed to comfort and refresh. Nourishing meals are possible in the stone-floor galley, equipped with a microwave, conventional oven, coffeemaker, refrigerator, crystal, china, and silverware.
The six-foot-tall standup cabin features a flat floor and eight fully-reclining club seats that can be converted into four beds. The standard interior design of the club seats is draped in natural Italian leather with leg rests, touchscreen controls, flat, stowable tables, a 19-inch HD monitor, and individual monitors. These seats are optimized to offer maximum entertainment on long flight missions. An internal baggage compartment allows further comfort for passengers, allowing them to store more items for use in-flight. While custom layouts are available, the Praetor 600 can comfortably transport eight to 12 passengers in four different layouts.
Embraer’s dedication to technology in the Praetor 600 commands home-like Wifi connectivity and overhead touchscreen cabin controls that display flight status information and control ambient lighting. The Honeywell Ovation™ Select Cabin Management Suite will spoil with HD video streaming and immersive audio. The Praetor 600’s interior cabin space has been thoughtfully designed to bring more comfort to passengers, while creating fewer touchpoints.
