JET LINX MIAMI LOCAL HISTORY
KOPF was founded in 1927 by aviation pioneer Glenn Curtiss as part of his Florida Aviation Camp. By 1966 and 1967, Opa-locka was the second-busiest airport in the United States behind only Chicago O'Hare. KOPF is now home to the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Miami — the world's busiest air-sea rescue station — and features one of the longest general aviation runways in the country at 8,002 feet.
