Scottsdale Airport (KSDL) began in 1942 as Thunderbird Field II, a U.S. Army Air Corps World War II pilot training facility that graduated approximately 5,500 pilots before being deactivated in 1945. KSDL is now one of the busiest single-runway airports in the world, with approximately 166,000 to 175,000 operations annually, and during the 2023 Super Bowl alone handled 490 corporate jet operations in 24 hours.
